Managing Classroom Behavior

When you are a high school teacher the two significant types of classroom behavior that you come across is inappropriate behavior in the class as well as lousy study skills. Growing up also involves having some behavior issues for most children. For some it is more severe than others. Behavior is one of the ways you can differentiate btw the special one and the regular ones. Lets see how classroom behavior can be maintained.

Create behavior expectations and spell them out to the students. At the start of every school year tell the students what you expect. Come up with rules, and that will govern the class on the first day of course. Go through the rules together with the students and make it a tradition in the classroom. If someone is doing something wrong come up with sighs that will signal them to stop doing what they are doing. Look closely to see if the laws are being developed.

Make sure that their no inappropriate behavior in the class by checking their action and giving them feedback. If you have a student who is continuously having lousy behavior keep a close eye on them and also avoid it at an early stage. Use severe voice and gestures to remind a student who is involved in bad behavior. When the practice is right it will be nice if you reward them.

Reinforcement such us social, exercise, physical, consumable and harmful strengthening should be applied in making sure that the rules are followed. Instead if giving physical reward when someone has good behavior provide those tokens every time they are right. The symbols can be used later to backup reinforcement. If the students are more advanced in age you should use contingency contracts. The contract is made by both you and the student stating that they will get a particular reward for good behavior. Behavior can also be taught by shaping, shaping involves taking steps in showing good behavior. Shaping can be used to introduce functional practice or enforce to the one living.

Use models to show the kind of behavior that you need from the student. When one of the does something good use them to teach the others how they should behave. In the presence of the other classmates teach a student who has behaved wrongly so that the rest can learn. This way you will be meeting on both sides. The student should be part of the behavior management program by being part of coming up with the goals, making sure they don’t make a mistake on their own and even by evaluating how they have done and how they should be rewarded. Parents should not be left out when it comes to behavior management programs.
